Perfect decor for a library or study, these amazing vintage ceramic wall plaques depict a side view of two of our most popular President's in the history of our country: President Abraham Lincoln and President George Washington. They are made of a heavy chalkware or plaster and the busts of each President are in relief (stand out) from the brown 'tree bark' background. They were created to look like they are carved out of wood. They are so beautiful! I have never found another set like them and I have had them for quite some time now. Each plaque measures 6-1/2" wide x 10" tall x 3/8" thick. They are unmarked. Both are ready for hanging. Average weight of each plaque is 1-1/2 pounds. #9413

CONDITION:

Although not absolutely perfect, these chalk ware plaques display beautifully. The Abraham Lincoln plaque has some of the black paint flaking off on his coat as you can see but underneath the color is still black so it is not that noticeable. The George Washington plaque has a small chip on the lower right corner showing the white chalk beneath but because of its location, it is hardly noticed; there are also several small flakes in the 'tree bark', the biggest being just above his head. Besides these things, there are some tiny chips here and there around the outside and back edges of both plaques but nothing much to speak of; it is just the nature of old chalkware and to be expected. The plaques are really quite unusual and very beautiful.
