This bag has a rare design with ghost dance star elements.
This was likely carried by a Comanche Indian who carried a mirror in it to signal great distances.
This is a rare and beautiful mirror bag that dates back to at least the 1880's, and was stored in a trunk for many decades. This is being sold in "as found" condition, and has not been tampered with.
The sides of the bag will need some minor repairs to be like new. Also the leather feels stiff from age and being stored.
*Comment from an online colleague: Very nice, and accurate description. Comanches never crafted anything except war items, and it is extremely likely that a Kiowa furnished this to a Comanche. The two tribes were, and have remained close. I wish this bag could talk!*
This item is in good original condition. The side has some bead loss, and needs resewing and the main tassel has diagonal cracks or breaks in the old fabric.
This weighs about 2 ounces before being packed.
This measures 8 1/2" long and 3 3/4" wide.
Item ID: RL-000284
