This exceptional oil on canvas landscape depicts women gathering water. In the background you see the distant mountains and a valley. The women gathering water in traditional dress, their well worn trails leading to the well. G.E. (George Edward) Candee produced some magnificent work in his lifetime. He was born in 1838 in New Haven, CT and traveled throughout Europe capturing scenes like this on canvas. This wonderful piece measures 22-1/2" x 30". This piece dates to around 1870, when the artist left for Europe to pursue painting oil landscapes. There is some age crackle to the canvas but no paint loss. Set in a beautiful gold gilt frame.
