Wonderful Cobalt Blue Majolica hanging wall pocket traditional French design. In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Crazing on back commensurate with age. Backstamped Made in Japan K in a circle, Maruhon Ware, with Japanese letters. 1930-1940. 8” by 5½” by 2”.

The Japanese word Maru translates to mark or circle. Pottery with the circled K was called Maruhon Ware and Marumon Ware. The stamp was followed by Made in Japan and by Japanese letters as required for export.

Maruhon Ware was made by the company known today as ‘Noritake’. Noritake was established in 1904 under the name ‘Nippon Toki Gomei Kaisha’ which can be roughly translated as ‘the company that makes Japan’s best/finest China
