Your Gemologist in the North Maine Woods
Head: His bisque head is perfect with no cracks, chips, or hairlines. His expression is extremely pouty. He has intaglio eyes, and a solid dome head with molded and painted hair. His modeling of features is sharp, and his painting is neat and perfect. Factory imperfections: some speckling on the forehead. Signs of wear: None – the bisque is in mint condition.
Body: His original body is composition and wood. It is fully jointed with straight wrists. The finish is entirely original, with no signs of repair or repainting. There is wear around the neck socket and some paint wear on one leg. His stringing is loose, but he stands well on display. The overall condition is very good.
Clothes: He is fully dressed in clothing that appears to be all antique. Everything was sewn-on, but I removed the stitching to examine and photograph him. His suit fits him perfectly and I suspect that these could be his original clothes. His suit is made of dark navy velvet. The pieces are fully lined with a material that is very like the material used for old wig caps, a cream-colored, finely woven, slightly stiff netting. His jacket is decorated with four brass buttons. His hat is embellished with a large silk ribbon bow. It is held in place with a little string that runs under his chin. His pants and sleeveless shirt are really one piece. Underneath, he wears his one-piece ribbed union suit. He has short knit socks, and those adorable black paper slip-on shoes with the metal toe buckles. Everything is still in excellent condition, including his shoes.
