A sweet, delicate statement (yoga student?)

This lightweight 1 3/4" earring makes a statement and looks great too. The om symbol (description below) is a popular statement among the yoga world, and the ring itself is 9mm round. (sterling silver). The Swarovski crystal is a bronze, copper, brown/tan shade, that has a fabulous finish with hightlights of pink, gold, blue, perfect puple, etc. I supported the piece with a button pearl with many of the same shades. all silver is sterling.

Om, most sacred syllable in the ancient Sanskrit language of India, considered in Hinduism to represent all scriptural revelation in a single symbol. Also referred to as aksara (Sanskrit for “syllable”) and pranava (Sanskrit for “to utter a droning”), om combines three sounds, A-U-M, and culminates in a fading nasal resonance that symbolizes communion with Brahman (the Absolute). In meditation, Hindus repeat om as a mantra, or sacred formula. Hindus also believe that the sacred sound of om accompanied creation and continues to echo and vibrate throughout the universe.

Originally om was recited only by the upper castes, but today Hindus of all castes use om in daily worship and meditation. In reciting om at the beginning and end of prayers, Hindus acknowledge the divine. When used as affirmation or assent, om resembles the words amen, used in the Judeo-Christian tradition, and mn, used in the Islamic tradition. In sacred Hindu writings known as the Upanishads, the meaning of om expands and the single syllable is used to represent the entire body of ancient sacred literature, called the Veda, as well as Brahman. The Mundaka Upanishad describes om in terms of archery: om represents the bow, the atman (self) represents the arrow, and Brahman represents the target. One must make the atman like an arrow, bending towards the target of the Absolute without diverting the mind.
