This small pink planter, trimmed with gold, in the shape of a snail shell. Attached to the front side are what looks like a limpet shell and three white balls. It still has its red and silver foil label identifying it as a ceramic product of Ucagco (photos 5 and 6), the United China and Glass Company, now believed to be out of business. The planter is 5.5" long, 4" wide, and 4" high to the top of the shell. Ucagco's products were made in Japan, but its offices were in New Orleans and New York. Ucagco was primarily a distributor of dinnerware and glassware, but they were also known for their ceramics. There are full-page advertisements in issues of the Pottery and Glass Journal from the 1950s that show hundreds of different items. Even 5 years ago Ucagco pieces were inexpensive, but lately have become increasingly valuable. This planter is in mint condition aside from wear around the edge of the base (photo 5) and small crazing. There appears to be no wear to the gilding.
