Murano Oversized Cased-glass Peach Goblet, Vintage Label

$75 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Oversized Cased-glass Peach Goblet, Vintage Label

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
I'm a little uncertain about how to describe the color of this oversized, cased-glass goblet. The outer layer of the goblet itself is certainly peachy, maybe even close to salmon, while the stem and foot are definitely salmon (photo 4). The goblet is a hair short of 10" in height, and the diameter is 4-1/4". A red-and-white rectangular paper label is still attached to the body of the goblet; there were probably numbers at the top of the label, but they are no longer visible. Only "Hand Blown in ...
Small Teal Cloverleaf Ashtray, Murano

$22 USD Offers ConsideredSmall Teal Cloverleaf Ashtray, Murano

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This small teal Murano ashtray comes from a local estate where most of the art glass was made by well-known U.S. companies (Kanawha, Pilgrim, Westmoreland, Bischoff, and Rainbow), This ashtray was one of the few piece of Murano art glass. It's 4" wide and 2" high. Aside from wear on the polished base, of the sort one expects on mid-20th century glass, It's in mint condition.
Unusual Murano Faux Crackle Snapping Turtle Ashtray, Mint

$45 USD Offers ConsideredUnusual Murano Faux Crackle Snapping Turtle Ashtray, Mint

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
I found this unusual figural ashtray at a recent estate sale where the woman (an artist) collected glass, mostly pieces made by U.S. glass companies. It's a snapping turtle with its mouth wide open and all four of its legs extended as though it's swimming. It's hollow and made of clear glass with a smooth crackle texture and internal streaks of glass in white, blue, orange, and yellow. The body is one gather of glass, and the head, legs, tail, and rim of the shell attached. The curled tail ...
Huge Murano Platter w/ Gold Aventurine, Signed

$325 USD Offers ConsideredHuge Murano Platter w/ Gold Aventurine, Signed

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This is an extremely large and heavy clear glass Murano platter (although it can be used as a shallow centerpiece bowl) with a central area filled with gold aventurine. I took one photo of the underside where it looks as though the central area was a separate piece and joined to the light turquoise circle by incalmo (photo 3), but I'm not sure. I can feel a slightly raised seam where the two seem to be joined. Made of thick glass, it's 18" in diameter and the rim is 2" high. There's a v-shaped ...
Small Light Gray Murano Pitcher w/ Lavender Swirls, Mint

$19 USD Offers ConsideredSmall Light Gray Murano Pitcher w/ Lavender Swirls, Mint

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
I purchased this small light gray pitcher at a local estate sale, and I'm fairly certain it's Murano in origin but cannot now find a picture to identify the factory. Within the light gray are swirls of lavender--shading to pink--and a hazy light green, especially along the base. It stands a little over 5.5: inches high and is in mint condition. There is very slight wear visible on the base (photo 6). I've added the swizzle stick only because I think it looks good.
Murano Blue Cased Bullicante Clamshell Ashtray, Alfredo Barbini

$45 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Blue Cased Bullicante Clamshell Ashtray, Alfredo Barbini

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This light blue ashtray, made by Alfredo Barbini, consists of several layers of glass including an opaque layer of opaque blue, covered by a layer of controlled bubbles, then tiny sprinkles of gold aventurine, all within a very thick outer layer of clear glass (photo 6). (At the center of the ashtray is a dollop of gold aventurine that looks like a comet [photo 4].) It's 6" long, 5-3/4" wide, and 2-1/4" high. The glass was depressed on two sides, creating its clamshell shape. The controlled ...
Large Amber Optic Snifter, Murano

$38 USD Offers ConsideredLarge Amber Optic Snifter, Murano

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This large amber snifter shows its optic effects best in good lighting. It still has a Murano red and silver foil label on the foot (photo 6), and stands 12.5" high. The smooth ribs that produce the optic effect can be felt on the interior of the shifter. Aside from tiny spots of white paint on the foot (photo 7), it's in excellent condition--no chips, flakes, or cracks. The spots can easily be removed by scraping or with turpentine or nail polish remover.
Heavy Murano Ribbed Cranberry Sommerso Vase w/ Pulled Collar of Spikes

$85 USD Offers ConsideredHeavy Murano Ribbed Cranberry Sommerso Vase w/ Pulled Collar of Spikes

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This exquisite cranberry sommerso vase, with its collar of pulled spikes, was probably made by Alfredo Barbini. It's just under 11" high and 5" wide. Aside from light scratches on the polished base, especially along the edges of the ribs, it's in mint condition. Shipping will be somewhat expensive because it's extremely heavy.
Barbini Pink Bullicante Bowl w/ Gold Aventurine, Medium-sized

$65 USD Offers ConsideredBarbini Pink Bullicante Bowl w/ Gold Aventurine, Medium-sized

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This medium-sized pink bullicante bowl by Alfredo Barbini has several layers of glass including one with a lavish sprinkling of gold aventurine over the swirling controlled bubbles. A final layer of clear glass covers the entire bowl. On either side the rim was slightly folded toward the center to form a large lip. The bowl measures 9" in length, 8" in width, and 2.5" in height. Aside from visible wear on the polished base and slight scuffing on the underside (photo 8), the bowl is in excellent ...
Murano Dark Teal Bowl w/ Swirling Gold Dust, 1950s

$45 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Dark Teal Bowl w/ Swirling Gold Dust, 1950s

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This square cased-glass bowl is probably the work of Fratelli Toso. It's cased glass: the outermost layer is a transparent smoky color, with a layer of opaque lattimo covered by a lavish dusting of swirling gold; on top of that is dark teal glass. While still liquid, the four corners of the bowl were stretched and pulled down. Aside from some wear on the pontil and a couple of burst bubbles on the interior (photo 4; they can be felt), it's in fine condition. It measures 7" x 7" and is 2.5" high.
Fratelli Toso Large Bullicante Yellow Butterfly Cased Ashtray, Murano

$135 USD Offers ConsideredFratelli Toso Large Bullicante Yellow Butterfly Cased Ashtray, Murano

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
The Murano factory of Fratelli Toso was known for the various large eye-catching biomorphic bowls and ashtrays designed by Ermanno Toso during the mid-20th century including leaves, flowers, shells, and butterflies, such as this ashtray. It's made of several layers of glass--an outer layer of lattimo (milk glass), then a layer of amber glass, which shows as golden over the white, then controlled bubbles (bullicante), which gradually grow in size as they spiral up and out from the center of the ...
Small Cased-glass Pink Bowl w/ Gold Aventurine, Mint

$28 USD Offers ConsideredSmall Cased-glass Pink Bowl w/ Gold Aventurine, Mint

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This small pink cased-glass bowl was probably made in one of Murano's furnaces, but there is no label. The layers of glass can be seen on the base (photo 5), and the aventurine was applied to both the interior and exterior layers (photo 7). The pink glass is scalloped, and the aventurine layer duplicates the pattern (photo 2). The bowl is 4" in diameter and 1.5" high. The base is ground and polished, and it's in mint condition.
Large Round Pink Sfumato Ashtray/Bowl w/ Gold Aventurine, Murano

$48 USD Offers ConsideredLarge Round Pink Sfumato Ashtray/Bowl w/ Gold Aventurine, Murano

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This large round pink ashtray (or bowl) was made in sfumato (photo 2), a style that gives the glass a clouded effect. Both the exterior of the ashtray and the rigaree cigarette rests, attached to one side of the rim (photo 3), were sprinkled with gold aventurine. The ashtray is 7-1/4" in diameter and 1.5" high, not including the rigaree. At both ends, attached to and securing the four cigarette rests, are two leaves (photos 4 & 5). Sadly, the tip of one leaf has been broken, but one has to look ...
Murano Amber & Mauve Spatter-glass Pitcher/Cruet

$28 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Amber & Mauve Spatter-glass Pitcher/Cruet

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This mauve and amber spatter-glass small pitcher or cruet was hand-blown and cased in clear glass, with a clear attached handle. The color of the glass in which the amber gather was rolled is hard to describe; it's a grayish lavender, so mauve will have to serve. The neck of the pitcher was twisted so that the spatters appear to swirl toward the lip. The pontil is rough and the clear casing shows in the base (photo 8). The pitcher/`cruet is 6-1/4" high, and it's in mint condition. If the handle ...
Fratelli Toso Opalino Folded Bowl, Mint

$125 USD Offers ConsideredFratelli Toso Opalino Folded Bowl, Mint

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This opalino (or opalescent) folded bowl was created by Fratelli Toso, the Murano firm that rejuvenated the Venetian art glass tradition in 1854. It is translucent and primarily pink in color, although shades of blue and lavender are visible, with the pink verging on red in certain light. It's 6.5" long, 5.5" wide, and not quite 2.5" high, and one side was folded over. Leslie Pina's book on Fratelli Toso has photos of other opalino glass items on pages 92 and 179. Aside from very light scratches ...
Large Fratelli Toso Square White Bowl with Murrines

$105 USD Offers ConsideredLarge Fratelli Toso Square White Bowl with Murrines

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass:Fratelli Toso
While the glass was still molten, the originally round rim was pulled and stretched to a point in four places to make it roughly square, and then crimped in five places on each side to create scallops. Scattered on the opalescent interior are 12 large murrines of red, white, and blue, most conspicuously blurred, like much of the factory's work with murrines. The glass of the bowl is opaque white covered with a layer of clear, and the sides are uneven in length, ranging from 10.5" to 12". It's 3" ...
Large Murano Ashtray--Clear filled with Gold Aventurine

$48 USD Offers ConsideredLarge Murano Ashtray--Clear filled with Gold Aventurine

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This is a large, heavy ashtray made of clear glass filled with a lavish layer of gold aventurine in a spiral, pinwheel design. I believe it to be the work of Archimede Seguso, one of Murano's finest artists. It's 8.5" long, 7-1/4" wide, and 2" high. One side of the ashtray is folded over (photo 5), and the other side has a single large scallop. The base has visible wear typical of mid-20th century art glass (photo 6), and there's a small flake on the outer edge of the rim (photos 8 & 9). My ...
Murano Hand-painted Green Cruet Fused Pair, w/ Label

$42 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Hand-painted Green Cruet Fused Pair, w/ Label

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass:Kitchenware:Oil & Vinegar Cruets
This green Murano cruet pair comes from the Cato estate in Lubbock, and still has its original round red paper label on the base (photo 8), probably dating to pre 1950. I generally avoid hand-painted art glass, but I thought the way it's made interesting. The two bottles were fused along one side, then attached to a blob of glass at the top of the stem (photo 7). This was hand-blown, although the pontil has been ground to stabilize the set. Painted on the surface of the cruets are a fish, two ...
Murano White Lacy Cased-glass Ashtray w/ Scroll Ends

$22 USD Offers ConsideredMurano White Lacy Cased-glass Ashtray w/ Scroll Ends

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This small Murano ashtray is likely the work of Barbini or Seguso: both produced art glass items with the characteristic tightly coiled shell-like scrolls at one or both ends. This ashtray is heavily cased clear glass with thickly packed pieces of white glass, creating a lacy, cloudlike effect and making it semi-transparent. It's 6.5" long, 5.5" wide, and 1.75" high. On both sides the outer layer of clear glass was pulled out and depressed at the rim to form handles and cigarette rests. The ...
Murano Blue & White Bullicante Clamshell Ashtray, Alfredo Barbini

$38 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Blue & White Bullicante Clamshell Ashtray, Alfredo Barbini

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This clamshell bullicante ashtray (or bowl) is made of several layers of glass, and was designed by Alfredo Barbini, one of the premier artists of Murano during the 20th century. The interior is milk glass covered by a layer of spiraling controlled bubbles, with an outer layer of light blue glass, the whole then encased in a thick layer of clear glass. The bowl is depressed on one side, and the inner edge is lightly scalloped. The ashtray/bowl is 6.5" long, 5.5" wide, and 2" high. Aside from ...
Murano Opalescent Bullicante Stylized Dove, Fratelli Toso Label

$78 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Opalescent Bullicante Stylized Dove, Fratelli Toso Label

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass:Fratelli Toso
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of Fratelli Toso figures I've seen, and I've enjoyed it now for years. It's a sleek stylized dove with controlled bubbles that become elongated toward the bird's head (photo 8). I've tried to capture the opalescence in several photos. The dove is 6-1/4" long, 3" wide, and 3" high to the top of its head. There are three production flaws: a pinched place on top of the dove's head (photo 5) and two places where the grinding wheel slipped while smoothing the ...
Small Murano Bullicante & Gold Aventurine Ashtray, Fratelli Toso

$26 USD Offers ConsideredSmall Murano Bullicante & Gold Aventurine Ashtray, Fratelli Toso

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This small clamshell-style blue ashtray is very light in weight even though it is several layers of glass (photo 3). The style, with a single depressed area for a cigarette, is typical of the work at Fratelli Toso, one of the oldest furnaces on the island of Murano. The light blue is distinctly different from the shade used by Alfredo Barbini. The controlled bubbles begin at the center as mere pin pricks of trapped air, then increase in size (photo 2) as they near the outer scalloped rim. A rich ...
Oval Blue Bullicante Ashtray/Bowl w/ Gold Aventurine, Alfredo Barbini

$23 USD Offers ConsideredOval Blue Bullicante Ashtray/Bowl w/ Gold Aventurine, Alfredo Barbini

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This oval, or elongated, blue bullicante ashtray (or bowl) is an unusual shape, at least not one I've run across. It's cased glass, with a layer of controlled bubbles, and then another of gold aventurine (photos 4 & 5), laid on top of the light blue; all was then covered with a layer of clear. The rim is depressed at both ends to make cigarette rests (photo 1). The bowl is 5.5" long, 4" wide, and 2.5" high. The polished base shows some wear (photos 6 & 7), otherwise the bowl is in excellent ...
Two Tall Murano Amber Diamond-point Decanters, 1950s, Mint

$78 USD Offers ConsideredTwo Tall Murano Amber Diamond-point Decanters, 1950s, Mint

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
I found this matched pair of 1950s Murano decanters in the garage at a local estate sale. I guess they'd been "retired." They're mold-blown, with a pattern of diamond-shaped protrusions (photo 5). The bottles were twisted so that the diamond pointss seem to spiral. Both still have their original stoppers (photo 6), but the cork that held them in the bottle securely has rotted away and they're quite wobbly. But there's no damage to either of these decanters, not even wear on the bases (photo 9). ...
Murano Triangular Orange Ashtray, Retro

$42 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Triangular Orange Ashtray, Retro

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
I found this orange Murano ashtray at a local estate sale. (Orange is an unusual color in the Murano palette.) It's pulled glass in the shape of a triangle, and each angle has a lipped groove on the underside. (This provides a secure grip when handling the ashtray.) The distance between the points is symmetrical, 10" x 10" x 10", and the ashtray is 1.5" high. There's visible wear on the once-polished base (photos 7 & 8), and one fleabite on the base's edge (photo 7). With this exception, the ...
Murano Blue Cased-glass Bullicante Trefoil Ashtray, Alfredo Barbini

$45 USD Offers ConsideredMurano Blue Cased-glass Bullicante Trefoil Ashtray, Alfredo Barbini

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This sky blue three-lobed ashtray is made of several layers of glass including a thick external layer of clear (photo 5). Showing on the interior are layers of controlled bubbles (or bullicante) and gold aventurine. The aventurine surrounds each of the spiraling bubbles (photo 3), creating a diamond pattern. The rim of the ashtray is crimped in three places, clearly showing the clear glass layer. The ashtray is 6" long, 6" wide, and 2-1/4" high. The ground and polished base shows scuffing ...
Pink, Blue, & White Pinwheel Filigrana Perfume Atomizer, Mint Murano

$28 USD Offers ConsideredPink, Blue, & White Pinwheel Filigrana Perfume Atomizer, Mint Murano

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass
This is a small, round perfume atomizer, perhaps a mid 20th-century product of the Murano furnace of Aureliano Toso. From top to bottom, the pinwheel design of pink and blue threads alternating between ten white threads is perfectly executed (photo 2), and the pink and blue threads have gold aventurine that faintly glistens in the light (photo 1). It stands 3-1/4" high and is about 6" in circumference at its widest point. The pontil is smooth and slightly concave (photos 5 & 6). The atomizer ...
A.VE.M. Amethyst Floriform Ashtray w/ Silver Flakes & Murrine, by Giulio Radi

$45 USD Offers ConsideredA.VE.M. Amethyst Floriform Ashtray w/ Silver Flakes & Murrine, by Giulio Radi

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Murano Art Glass:A.Ve.M
Floriform ashtrays were popular art glass items produced by Murano glassmakers. This ashtray was designed by Giulio Radi at A.VE.M., and illustrates one of his favorite techniques, a layer of murrines scattered over a layer of large silver flakes in a dark, almost black, amethyst glass. The amethyst can be seen most readily along the sharp crimped tips and in the base (photos 4 and 5). The ashtray is 7" in diameter and 2.5" high. Aside from very slight wear on the polished pontil, and one ...
