Green and Blue Art Glass "Kisses" by Carol Scherer

$7 USD Offers ConsideredGreen and Blue Art Glass "Kisses" by Carol Scherer

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
I found these two art glass "kisses" at the estate sale of the artists who collected primarily U.S. art glass. They were made by Carol Scherer, a U.S. glass maker who also makes special kisses for holidays such as St. Patrick's Day, and white ones with the breast cancer pink ribbon. One is beautiful deep blue, the other is emerald green, and both are in mint condition, right up to their little curls. The green one is 1.5" high; the blue one is 1-1/8" high. Both have white paper on the bottom ...
Cased-glass Striped Bird

$28 USD Offers ConsideredCased-glass Striped Bird

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This tall art glass bird was meant to be purely decorative in a dramatic way. The bird is cased-glass, with a white layer in which amethyst canes are embedded, the whole covered with a thick clear layer. It stands 10.5" high. The stubby tail was pulled from the clear layer and crimped (photos 3 and 6); the bright amber head was attached (photo 4), and the eyes were pressed in the hot glass with a blunt instrument. There is no damage, but there is a production flaw: one of the canes doesn't show ...
Acid-etched Amethyst Tumbler

$22 USD Offers ConsideredAcid-etched Amethyst Tumbler

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
The acid-etched design on this tumbler or small vase is an abstract pattern that suggests floral profusion. The etching process left a satin-glass texture to the tumbler. It's 4.5" high and the mouth is 3" in diameter. It has the same style as a larger vase (#2337), which I believe to be Scandinavian (photo 5). There are three fleabites on the inside rim of the tumbler (photo 3); otherwise it's in excellent condition. I enlarged the photo so the fleabites could be clearly seen, but they're not ...
Iridescent Clear Pineapple Ornament

$8 USD Offers ConsideredIridescent Clear Pineapple Ornament

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This is a very light, fragile hand-blown tree ornament in the shape of a pineapple. I believe it was made to be a showpiece ornament on a Christmas tree, but it can also be hung in front of a window where its vibrant iridescence might best be displayed. Six tipped spikes, three large ones and three small, stand out around the central stem. It's 6-3/4" in height, and 11.5" in circumference at its widest point. There is a tip missing from the large spine on the left in photo #2, but it doesn't ...
Square Aqua Clear Art Glass Ashtray

$12 USD Offers ConsideredSquare Aqua Clear Art Glass Ashtray

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This 6-inch square ashtray is a delicate aqua clear glass, and was made in a spin mold. The circular marks left by the mold can be seen on the base of the ashtray in photo #3. The four cigarette rests, one at each corner, were made by pressure on the still-liquid glass. Aside from two tiny scratches on either side of a corner, it's in excellent condition.
Standing Blue, Green, & White Swirl Corny

$22 USD Offers ConsideredStanding Blue, Green, & White Swirl Corny

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This is a large standing corny with with intense blue, green, and white swirls. The top of this unusual corny was pulled into a triangular shape with distinctive "elbows." The diameter is 6'5", and it stands 12" high on its curled tail, which is 6" in diameter. It's made of a single gather and is in mint condition. Aside from the wear on the base typical of mid-fifties art glass, it's in mint condition. There are no cracks, flakes, or chips.
Large Ruby Sommerso Bowl, Eames Era

$58 USD Offers ConsideredLarge Ruby Sommerso Bowl, Eames Era

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This is a beautiful ruby red sommerso serving bowl with a beveled outer rim (photos 2 & 3). Because it's sommerso, it's also fairly heavy. The base has been ground and polished (photo 6), with a distinct outer rim that shows a little visible wear (photo 7). The bowl is 4" high and 6.5" in diameter. The only damage I've found is am area of what look like tiny scratches on the interior (photo 5), but there are no chips, flakes, or cracks.
Light Blue Controlled Bubble Paperweight Bud Vase, Label

$25 USD Offers ConsideredLight Blue Controlled Bubble Paperweight Bud Vase, Label

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This 6-1/4" paperweight bud vase is clear glass atop a light blue sphere filled with controlled bubbles (photos 3 & 4). It still has a gold foil label attached near the rim, but I've been unable to identify the maker. The label is shaped like a shield (photo 2). Inside the shield is a large "H" with two small "F"'s below it; one of the F's is reversed, so that the F's are back to back. Above these initials is a crown, which suggests it may be Scandinavian in origin. The slightly concave base is ...
Unusual Clear Glass Centerpiece Bowl

$58 USD Offers ConsideredUnusual Clear Glass Centerpiece Bowl

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This is a very large clear glass bowl, 16" in diameter, more than 50" in circumference, and 4" high. The rim is symmetrically crimped to a depth of 2.5" with turned-up edges. It's hand-made, and the lines made when the glass was turned are visible on the exterior (photo 5). Aside from wear and light scratches (photo 4), the bowl is in perfect condition.
Large Emerald Green Bowl

$48 USD Offers ConsideredLarge Emerald Green Bowl

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
Bought at a local estate sale, I have no idea which of the many fine glass companies made this bowl, but it looks like the work of one of Blenko's designers. In photo #1 it's paired with the very large platter it came with. I'm fairly certain that they were produced and purchased together because the deep emerald green of both is identical. The bowl is 13" across, 39" in circumference, and 3-1/4" high. The base shows no pontil. Aside from slight visible wear on the base (photo 5), it's in mint ...
Large Bubble Cranberry Optic Art Glass Vase

$44 USD Offers ConsideredLarge Bubble Cranberry Optic Art Glass Vase

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This a very large cranberry bubble vase. It's 11"5" high and 38" in circumference. The optic effect was created by twisting the glass while it was still malleable so that the vase appears to have a diamond pattern when you look through it. There are a couple of air bubbles (one where it can be seen when the vase is displayed, photo 7), slight wear on the base, and one small flake interior to the polished rim (photo 4).
Crimson Controlled Bubble Owl Paperweight, Norleans

$18 USD Offers ConsideredCrimson Controlled Bubble Owl Paperweight, Norleans

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass:Norleans
Norleans, a mid-20th-century company in Japan, is better known for their fine china, but they also made art glass. I found this owl paperweight (and a red one, #2385) at the estate sale of local artists who collected many things, among them art glass and letter openers. It's a mold-blown crimson sommerso owl with controlled bubbles spiraling through its body (photos 3-5). It's 3-1/4" high and 2.5" wide. Although this one no longer has its label, it's identical to the red owl, which does have the ...
Red Controlled Bubble Owl Paperweight, Norleans Label

$20 USD Offers ConsideredRed Controlled Bubble Owl Paperweight, Norleans Label

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass:Norleans
Norleans, a mid-20th-century company in Japan, is better known for their fine china, but they also made art glass. I found this owl paperweight (and a crimson one, #2386) at the estate sale of local artists who collected many things, among them art glass and letter openers. It's a mold-blown red sommerso owl with controlled bubbles spiraling through its body (photo 3). It's 3-1/4" high and 2.5" wide. On the right side is a bit of glass left from the mold (photo 5), and on the base is the red and ...
Small Topaz Pitcher w/ Attached Handle, Mint

$18 USD Offers ConsideredSmall Topaz Pitcher w/ Attached Handle, Mint

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This small topaz pitcher was probably made by one of the many glass companies in West Virginia, and it's a beautiful example of the glass-blower's art with its deeply pinched spout (which keeps the liquid from dripping; photo 1) and smoothly finished base (photo 5). It's 5.5" high 5.5" long, and 4-3/4" wide. There is no damage, although there's a semicircle within the glass where the base of the handle was attached (photo 4).
Asymmetrical Pennelato Aqua Vase

$22 USD Offers ConsideredAsymmetrical Pennelato Aqua Vase

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
I bought this small asymmetrical vase because I was fascinated by its shape, in particular the opening of the vase, which is visibly off-center (photos 3 & 4), and the pennelato technique, which I'd not seen before. Pennelato is a technique in which swirls of differently colored glass resemble abstract painting. The vase is 3.5" high and 3" wide. The interior of the lip is rounded and smooth and tucked under (photo 5). The pontil is rough, and the outer edge of the base is ground, not polished, ...
Amethyst Hobnail Vase or Jug

$25 USD Offers ConsideredAmethyst Hobnail Vase or Jug

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
This amethyst hobnail vase (or jug) has a slightly twisted neck and flared rim. It stands 10.5" high and 18" in circumference at its widest point. It's in mint condition.
SOLD Teal Cased-Glass Hobnail Vase, Vintage

SOLDSOLD Teal Cased-Glass Hobnail Vase, Vintage

Glass:Mid-20th-c. Art Glass
It is unmarked, but the exquisite craftsmanship of this teal hobnail vase suggests that it may be the work of Carlo Moretti, one of the many fine glass artists of Murano. There are at least 4 layers of glass: an interior layer of teal, then milk glass, on top of that another layer of teal glass, and an outer layer of clear (photos 4 & 5). It's 16" high and 24" in circumference at its widest point. It was hand-blown (rough pontil shown in photos 7 & 8), and is in mint condition. The white ...
