Flemish pyrography Folk Art was a popular hobby of Victorian ladies. Briefly, Pyrography was a process utilizing benzene fueled tools, where the design was burned into the wood. When they were painted, as this fabulous Art Deco plaque was, distinctive hues of color were used. This was an ancient craft, which gained popularity in Victorian times and continued for decades. Folk artists, hobbyists and artists experimented with pyrographic art. It was a folk craft that gained popularity all over the world, not only America.
This fabulous example of Vintage Pyrography, measures 7 wide and 9 high. There is an absolutely stunning Art Deco woman with amazing coloration dressed in typical attire of the Art Deco period even a wonderful hat with a flower. Her hair is styled in gorgeous black waves and her make-up is impeccable. There are hues of color of red, yellow black, and beiges.
To make this Flemish Art plaque even more intriguing is the inscription on the back: To my ex cell mate Jean. Genesee Hospital 1939 A true Pal. It is signed Frank Caferney.
These Vintage Flemish Art pyrography items are highly collectible and sought after by collectors widely. The colors are as vibrant in this plaque as the day they were painted and it is in pristine condition.
