Circa 1940’s-50’s, this under carved vintage Lucite frame measures 4 ¾ inches wide and 7 inches tall. The outer portion of this Lucite frame is domed and this is the under carved portion, Set inside this frame, under slightly texturized, but clear vintage Lucite is the lenticular photo of a hula girl, a true Hawaiiana collectible! Lenticular photography was first developed in 1908 by Gabriel Lippman. What makes a photograph lenticular, is the fact that as you move the lenticular photographic image in your hand, or walk by a large one a wall, the image seems to move and come to life. In this example of lenticular photography, as one moves this photo of the hula girl in the Lucite frame from side to side, her hips move, appearing as if she is doing the hula dance! It truly must be seen to be appreciated. The vintage photo is black and white and the hula girl is attired in typical Hawaiiana hula fashion, including a flower in her hair and Hawaiian flowers around her neck!
