Circa 1930’s-40’s, this Vintage Alumesh purse measures 5 ½ inches in width and 5 inches in height. The handle measures a total of 8 inches. This classic alumesh vintage purse is quite indicative of the style made popular by Whiting and Davis Company, although this purse is without the label indicating such. Alumesh was a process that produced enameled aluminum and purses utilizing this, had the look and feel of a vintage beaded purse, being quite pliable.
The frame of this off white alumesh vintage handbag is brass. Connected to two brass rings on either side of the purse, is the wonderful ivory colored celluloid ring handle, each ring measuring ¾ inch in length – all perfect. The closure is wonderful, being so very Art Deco looking. It is an interlocking closure, with one ¼ inch celluloid cylinder overlapping the other. The top of these celluloid closures are molded on top, creating the deco appearance. SEE PHOTOS. On the top of one side of the vintage alumesh purse only, there is some enamel wear (see photos). Otherwise the vintage purse is perfect, without any mesh missing or torn away.
The lining is a silky feeling deep navy blue and is perfect. Except for the aforenoted enamel wear on one side only, the vintage purse is in fabulous condition.
The size is so versatile, that it can easily be used as a belt bag and hung from a belt. It will make a wonderful daytime or evening vintage purse and is truly just the perfect vintage accessory.
