This charming Vintage Chenille Baby Spread Coverlet measures 60 inches long and about 38 inches wide. It is perfect size for a crib, folded for a carriage or a child’s day bed. How about using it on a Vintage doll carriage! I absolutely love these Vintage Chenille Coverlets when hung on the wall, once the child outgrows them – how wonderful!

The background of this vintage chenille baby blanket is white with white tufting throughout. In the center, there is a contrasting baby blue chenille dog raised slightly off the surface of this chenille bedspread, creating a fabulous contrast. This adorable little doggie measures 7 inches wide and 7 inches tall. This adorable vintage chenille dog has pink eyes, pink feet and a pink tongue and wagging tall! There is a border of blue, which is almost like fringe, around the entire Vintage child’s coverlet. Almost framing the adorable chenille dog, there is a border of pink chenille in a free flowing design. This Vintage chenille bedspread can easily be for a boy or girl with the white, blue and pink coloration.

The first chenille spread was hand tufted by Catherine Evans in 1895, which was made as a home craft and sold two years later for $2.50. Continuing this wonderful hand tufted craft, eventually in 1917 the Evans Manufacturing Company was established for the manufacture of chenille items. The raised design on cotton chenille items are a kind of tufting, that when laundered during the process, creates a kind of “bloom” which stays in place, and hence the raised work on the Chenille items.

Another fabulous suggestion, if desired, is to design and make a wonderful Vintage chenille pillow, with the adorable chenille dog in the center.
