The sinuous hollow-ware brooch is abundantly decorated with the finest applied, spun wire, filigree designs. At the center of a graceful tubular spiral, a ten seed pearls cluster holds a green paste solitaire crystal in a six claw crown setting. The round cut, bright green paste stone, simulating an emerald, looks so real that I tested it twice, on my Refractometer, just to be absolutely certain of my conclusion.
A single 1/8” diameter tube gracefully forms the spiral design element, or “Lover’s Knot”. This has been beautifully formed by hand, over one hundred thirty years ago.
This brooch has the typical “C” closure found on almost all Victorian pins. In the photos, you will see that the condition is near perfect. The serpentine form represents long life in Victorian symbology.
The pin is 1 7/8” at the widest and measures 11/16” from “north to south”.
The brooch weight is 3.8 grams of 19K Yellow Gold, tested. There is a maker’s hallmark: “LM” on the hinge end of the pin stem.
This is a beautiful example of the fine craftsmanship evident in mid-Victorian jewelry. It will make an excellent first piece in building a collection, or an addition to an existing, Victorian jewelry or Etruscan Revival jewelry collection. We purchased this bracelet as a suite and will be offering the matching lever back earrings and bangle bracelet as separate items in our Ruby Lane shop. Be sure to look for them.
I am including shipping and insurance costs for this item to most destinations.
