This antique necklace has two Amethysts set in bezels which are surmounted on a substantial 14K yellow gold openwork frame. Giving the necklace a sophisticated look is a distinctive outline of white French Enamel. Six small round River Pearls accent the frame; one larger, oval, River pearl is suspended from the bottom.
The shape of the lavalier is reminiscent of a clover and an elongated, inverted "V". Attached atop the "V" is a sculpted sprig of leaves.
Both of the bezel set, gem quality Amethysts exhibit a rich and lively medium purple hue. The 1 carat upper stone has a faceted triangular cut with a gently arced top edge. The 3/4 ct. faceted round stone is plaque mounted at the center of the clover.
The pendant is attached, by jump rings, to chains at each upper corner of the triangle amethyst.

Amethysts and Pearls are often found in early 20th Century jewelry. They certainly are an attractive combination of complimentary gems. The use of the two together has a symbolic meaning which is a sort of secret code. The white pearls represent the word "women" and the violet amethysts represent the word "Vote". Worn together these gems express the motto of the Suffragettes: "give WOMEN the VOTE".
