For your consideration is an 18th century French faience 4 drawer chest from the renowned faiencier Veuve Perrin. This is a treasure with 3 vignettes, top and both sides featuring period scenes. The painting on the top of the piece has two fishermen surrounded by a clearing of oak trees and a seaside background, the left side is a picture of a man and woman in the countryside and the on right side is a woman walking ,again surrounded by oak trees. The front of the chest is decorated in a floral motif complete with floral drawer pulls and tiny insects, which are Provencal symbols of good fortune. The detail is exquisite and this piece is truly a work art. The Perrin factory had been founded by Claude Perrin. When he died in 1748, his wife Pierrette Candelot became head of the company. Under her ownership, the company became famous for outstanding pieces of decorated faience which are now mostly in museums.. The company's artists were trained in French art schools to learn the skill and perfection that is so evident in their work. The piece is marked on the bottom with a VP which is the mark Of Veuve Perrin or translated the widow Perrin. Perrin factory was closed in 1803, eight years after Pierrette Candelot died. This motif was used by the factory from 1775 to 1780. This is 5 inches tall 5 1/2 inches wide and in remarkable condition with only mild fritting and age related crazing.
