Rare Veuve Perrin Decorative Plate Maritime Circa 1760.
Even more rare this is one of a set of five each depicting a different maritime scene which will be added for your consideration over the coming days. This plate has men working on the shore with a high Provencal cliff in the background. Each plate is highlighted with the famous floral
wreath with the V accent.
These plates are all a work of art.
The Perrin factory was founded
by Claude Perrin. When he died in 1748, his wife Pierrette Candelot
became head of the company. Under her ownership, the
company became famous for outstanding pieces of decorated faience. The company's artists were trained in
French art schools to learn the skill and perfection so evident in their work.
The plate is marked on the bottom with a VP which is the mark Of Veuve Perrin or translated the widow Perrin.
Perrin factory was closed in 1803, eight years after Pierrette Candelot died.
These plates have gone to auction at 1,600 to 1,800
Euros and are displayed in the museum of Faience in Marseille.
This piece has no chips, cracks or restorations.
It has very light wear but still carries a brilliant shine to the finish and is in excellent condition for a piece of 18th century faience.
The art work is delicate and beautiful. The size is 22 1/4 centimeters or 8 1/4 inches. Each was manufactured with 2 holes in the back of the plate for hanging.
