This 1885 Regule tobacco jar was made for a captain of the French Calvary upon retirement with his initials of M R. The scene is an officer on horseback riding away so you only see his back on both sides of the jar framed with oak branches and acorns . There is a horse shoe a one side as well as his initials. The lid is oak branches and with a vine handle.It is has an unusual almost log shape and the front is designed so the scene is like a turning page. A highly symbolic piece. This was ...
