Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942) is a retired American boxer and former three-time World Heavyweight champion. Ali was known for his fighting style, which he described as "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee". With nicknames like The Greatest, The Champ, The Louisville Lip, he fought 61 professional fights, equaling 56 wins, 5 losses, and 37 wins by knock out. Ali defeated almost every top heavyweight in his era, which has been called the golden age of heavyweight boxing. He was named "Fighter of the Year" by Ring Magazine more times than any other fighter, and was involved in more Ring Magazine "Fight of the Year" bouts than any other fighter. He is an inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and holds wins over seven other Hall of Fame inductees. He is also one of only three boxers to be named "Sportsman of the Year" by Sports Illustrated.
