Yombe Helmet Mask. Purchased in 1995, the estimated age was 70+ years. The appraisal description states (in part): Helmet mask, black wood. Thick features, top has fabric material interwoven with cowrie shells. Copper woven strip descends from cowrie shells to tip of nose. Co centric plates on front of forehead and on cheeks. Bulbous nose, mouth slightly open exposing bottom row of teeth….. Measurement of mask from top of head to chin is 13 inches. Diameter approximately 12 inches….Country of origin - Congo. Ethnic group Yombe (?). Appraised September 27, 1997 at $2,000.
