Purchased in 1995, the estimated age was 50+ years. The appraisal description states: Janus Faced Marka Statue. Female with metal sheathing at various sections of the face and torso. Elaborate coiffure. Head of mask has holes for attachments of various colored tufts of cotton and metal disc. Body of statute is round and has a self contained circular base. Overall height is 30 inches. Country of origin is Mali and the Ethnic group is Marka. Appraised January 17,1998 at $950.
