A very unusual mid 19th century mantel clock of a Bedouin tribesman on his camel. The bronzed spelter case is in fine condition with no breaks or cracks. Much of the original finish and gilt details remain intact. The movement is 8 day time and bell strike and is signed Dufaud, Paris. It is a high quality movement with steel suspension. A very unusual and rare timepiece signed by the maker and the Parisian retailer. Eight day time and bell strike, the movement has a pendulum in the form of a cooking pot which oscillates in the fireplace. A near identical clock is documented in Derek Robert's book: Mystery Novelty and Fantasy Clocks, (1999), page 263, and also in the Meraux Collection (Sotheby's, June 1993), lot No.6.
