We love antiques and art!! Specializing in art, frames and other collectibles - antique and vintage.
This is a nice vintage oil on art board of the Old Firehouse in Naples, NY. Size of this piece of art is 19 1/4" X 15 1/2". Paint colors are strong with no flaking or chips. It sets into a nice solid wood frame that has been painted, there are some paint chips and craquelure on the frame- frame measures 25 1/2" X 21 3/4". Glued to the back of the painting are some newspaper articles regarding this historic building both with pictures. One is titled "In Naples, N.Y. Morgan Hose Co. Fire Hose & Bell Tower" and the article goes on to tell a bit about the building - it is dated May 16, 1971. This particular article is torn on the right hand side and underneath there is a name of Helen P. Little but we do not know for sure if she is the artist. This is a nice piece of history from Naples, NY and from a building that now houses the Historic Society. Great on for you collection.
This building was built in 1825 and was used as a boardinghouse until 1891. It was that year that the existing firehouse in Naples burned down. The boarding house was converted to a firehouse by the then “Morgan Hose”. At that time, the tower was added to the structure. Towers were used to hang and dry fire hose before the advent of dryer ovens. The old Erina Hose building on Niagara Street in Canandaigua has another example of a hose tower. In approximately 1925 “Morgan Hose” became “Maxfield Hose”. Today the building is home to the Naples Historical Society.
