An Original Portrait Painting by Listed British Artist Julius Mendes Price (1857-1924 United Kingdom) in a nice Ebonized Multiple Stepped Profile Frame which we believe is period to the Artwork. The Painting is done on some sort of hard dense board like material which has been adhered or bonded to another piece of wood. This piece of wood has bowed over time and would take someone with the knowledge and ability to flatten it or perhaps a restorer of art could remove the top 1/8th inch thick piece of material that the painting is on from the wooden backing. The Painting is not presently attached to the Frame but will be secured when shipped. There are remnants of a London Framers Label on the reverse side of the Frame. The Artwork is of an Elderly Gentleman and is signed upper left Julius M. Price. The Ebonized Frame is beautiful despite a number of areas of chipped pieces, mostly toward the inner edges. Two diagonal mitered corners have some separation across from each other. This is fixable with clamping or pressure but does not have to be done. Art sight size is 6.25 by 8.87 inches, Frame overall measures 14.50 by 16.75 inches and is just over 2 inches thick. The art opening on the frame reverse is 7.25 by 9.50 inches. We found very little information available about Mr. Price other than auction results. No Biographical information appears available.
