A unique antique oil painting on a zinc panel of two maids crossing a stream while carrying firewood on their heads and followed by a hunter and his dog. Much to the dismay of the trailing maid, the hunters dog has decided to be a bit playful or naughty depending on your perspective and from this playfulness we observe Mother Nature in all her glory. The hunter has a rather startled look upon his face as does the maid. This extremely well detailed work is painted on a zinc panel. Art measures 6 by 7.75 inches sight, and 9.75 by 11.62 inches framed. It is mounted in its original frame although we believe the backing board is not original to the piece. According to an old penned label on the reverse, this work was painted by a Mrs. Ackins in 1840 and her Husband was a Professor at Harvard. This beautiful Painting was recently obtained at the Backofen Estate Auction held in East Plainfield New Hampshire. Also stated on the reverse label was that the Painting was purchased by Walter Backofen from the Ackin Family and we were told by his Wife that he purchased this work back in the 1950's. The work is in overall good shape except for an area in the center top where there are three small (about 1/4 inch long each) chips of missing paint. The rest of the work is stable, could use a light cleaning or could just as well display as is.
