This statue of Gautama Buddha is expertly carved on a substantial piece of ivory with a nice patina. The Buddha sits on a Lotus Flower and is a wonderful piece of art Every fold to his clothing is well defined, his face is beautiful and there are many layers of lotus petals.

This vintage ivory piece from India, weighs over 1 lb and measure 6 1/8 inches high and its base is 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches. Almost perfect condition with no chips or cracks except for one finger tip (see photo).

"The lotus represents purity of the body, speech, and mind as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. It is also to be noted that most Buddhist, Chinese, Hindu, Japanese, amongst other Asian deities are often are depicted as seated on a lotus flower. According to legend, Gautama Buddha was born with the ability to walk and everywhere he stepped, lotus flowers bloomed."
