This is a very large Victorian music box made by Jacot, which is one of the finest makers of Music boxes. This box is circa 1870s in age, and was one of the most expensive models made because of the size when it was made. The case of the music box measures 38 inches in length, 16 inches in depth, and 10.5 inches in height. Someone added newer feet to the clock, which can be taken off if you wanted to. The comb on the music box measures 16 inches in length, the cylinder measures 17 inches in length. The comb has approx 82 teeth. We examined all the teeth, 71 of the teeth are perfect condition, 11 teeth are missing the little bristle on the end of them, we did picture what we are reffering to and pointed it out. The music box does run and sounds good. The tag on the inside of the music box reads: Jacot & Sons, 39 Union Square,NY". There is a serial number on the works #27596. The exterior of the case is a typical box with a rosewood grain painted finish, the case does have some inlay to it. The top of the case probably had an inlaid panel at one time, someone took it out and put a piece of glass so they could view the interior of the music box as it was running. The glass is in good condition and sits securely in the cover. The handles on the side are original and in good condition, they are probably bronze and of top quality. Jacot is probably one of the most highly collected music box makers known, they made some of the most expensive music boxes in the world and were the finest makers of them. IF this music box were in mint condition it is probably a $6,000 music box. Since some of the teeth are missing the little bristles and the case has an added glass top we are selling it with no reserve. We can take the legs off this and ship the item out at a cost of $125 in the continental United States. We would prefer if the winning bidder pick it up in person or use a proffesional shipper. Please email for rates outside the continental United States before bidding.
