Absolutely gorgeous hand painted dessert set from White's Art Company. Consists of a large oval platter and six matching cake plates festooned with violets. The porcelain blanks are all nicely textured around the outer edge. Overall condition is very good-to-excellent. The platter has virtually no wear to the hand painted finish and gold trim. Over the years, it appears the plates were stacked one on another, so there is some light paint wear to the high points of the textured surface. See close up photo for example. Platter measures just under 14" across the gold-accented handles, and 9 1/4" deep. The plates all measure 7 1/8" in diameter. All pieces are signed by the artist, Chevel, who is not listed as a White's artist in Reed's book, The Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China. All pieces are stamped with a White's Art Co. pink-filled triangle mark first identified in the November 2004 edition of the Pickard Collectors Club (PCC) newsletter, page 4. Although the specific mark is undated, it is known that White's Art Co. was in business from 1914 to 1923. All pieces also stamped with a Limoges manufacturer's mark, identified as Gerard, Dufraisseix, and Abbot Mark #1, found in use from about 1900 to 1941. Member, PCC.
