The gauntlet was thrown. It was the most mind-stretching theme challenge yet (for me anyways) and thanks to Natalia, I believe I've been able to rise to the occasion.

Think the theme Gothic Bride and for many, Tim Burton leaps to mind. I was no different. My earrings, Rising To The Occasion, were inspired by his 2005 Academy Award-nominated stop-motion-animation film, "Corpse Bride".

Based loosely on a 19th Century Russian-Jewish folktale version of an older Jewish story and set in a fictional Victorian era village, "Corpse Bride" exhibits Burton's trademark style and recurring themes (the complex interaction between light and darkness, and of being caught between two irreconcilable worlds). It is portrayed that life is being boring and dull (hence it is colored in pastel greys) and death being more fun (it being colorful and very musical as well, have you seen those skeletal song dance routines??). I just HAD to choose "Corpse Bride" as my muse, rather, it chose me. Yes, it was that compelling.

Being 99% influenced by wild, wacky colors, restrain was an issue particularly when I decided that these earrings would be directly tied in with the wedding gown worn by the corpse bride herself, Emily. I honed in on the bodice of her gown with its lace applique, smatterings of pearls and sweetheart neckline.

Rising To The Occasion showcases hammered diamond-esque frames which have been laboriously adorned with lacy weaves of fine wire. Toward the center, sitting prettily are magnificent 13Ctw Mystic Black Spinel, flanked on one side by exquisite Faceted Silver Pearls and all around by 2Ctw of Genuine Diamonds (but of course). Draping downwards in corsage-like fashion are luscious Keishi Pearls which culminate in the most beautiful A Grade Pebble Frosted Black Garnet Briolettes ever!!! Oh and the Burmese Rubies? Well, Emily had a spot of lipstick on too, ya know.

Comfy Ear Hooks, made by me, have been further accentuated with half a dozen, each, 925 Silver Seed Beads. Measuring an approximate 2.9", both 925 Sterling and 999 Fine Silver Wires played important supporting roles in the making of these babies.
