Fine Eglomise Landscape Silver Brooch 19th Century

A very fine, early eglomise or reverse painting on glass oval brooch under domed glass showing a finely detailed scene of two bonneted ladies strolling along a riverbank. The foreground is a water and foliage landscape set against an intricately detailed architectural background. The flowing river is painted in metallic copper tones whereas the architecture is shown in silver. Each warmly reflects the beauty of a glorious setting sun at dusk.

This mid 19th Century brooch is collar set in silver and unmarked. It measures 2 1/4" by 1 3/4" and has the early "T" hinge and "C" clasp common for these very old pieces with the pin appearing to have been replaced a long time ago. It is just slightly uneven.

There is a wee, tiny bit of cloudy crackling in the foreground of the painting primarily along the bottom edge when seen at an angle, but the spot simply looks like shadowing. It in no way hinders the beauty of this fine piece but is worthy of mention in keeping with strict disclosure. Please click on the photo to see additional views.
