SOLD Vintage French Glass SEED Tubes - Garden Plant Label / Tally
Collection of 12 French, early 20th century glass seed tubes (vials) originally used for seed storage. All of the vials come with cork stoppers and some with pointed ends, allowing them to be conveniently staked into the soil. Others have pointed loop ends and these can hung or suspended. All vials retain removable, early printed paper labels inserted into the tubes. The labels are for various flowers such as pansies and sweet peas (Delphinium concolida, Viola tricolor, Arnica, Dianthus Barbartus and Lathyrus odoratus), for strawberries (Fraisiers), sorrel (Oseille), aniseed (Anis), peppers (Piment), asparagus (Asperges) and gherkins (Cornichons vert petit de Paris). Some of the less conconventional uses for these charming gardening bygones would include their use in table place settings with guests names inserted inside, or in the storage and display of colored glass beads etc.
They come in slightly varying sizes ranging from 5 ½” to 6 ¼”. Condition is excellent. The tubes are free from chips or cracks.
