19th Century English Fire Bucket - Antique British Great Western Railway Pail

19th century painted metal bucket made for the British railway company, Great Western Rail, a company that was in operation from 1833 to 1923. Once filled with sand and used as a fire bucket, this simple and charming bucket retains its original paint both inside and out –paint that has faded over the years with the result being a subtle variation in color and rich patination – and greatly adding to its aesthetic appeal. It is quality made –it has a strong bail handle and hooped base and is constructed with rivets rather than solder -a sign of early manufacture. Impressed on the front are the initials G W R. There are no holes or repairs.
It looks great as a flower bucket filled with fresh greenery or used for potted plants such as topiaries and it is a fabulous way to introduce textural interest into a room.
Excluding the handle, it measures 9 ¼” in height. The diameter at the top is 11” and 8” at the base. Please note that this item is heavy.
