Antique Scottish Treen - Piggin / Luggie - Staved Wooden Tub

19th century Scottish treen piggin / luggie. This small wooden tub would have been used as a dipper and or drinking vessel. It is staved and bound in ash with fingered bands, and with one stave lengthened to form the lug or handle. It is a fine quality example with an outstanding, richly-colored patina. There is some shrinkage of the staves. This is both typical and appropriate given the age of the piece and the very nature of the material. Condition is excellent. It measures 5 ½” in diameter and 3 ½” in height ( 5 ½” with the handle).
