English and French country antiques with an emphasis on antique kitchenware, small painted country furniture and folk art.
Miniature, French Empire giltwood and gesso mirror, early 19th C. This charming little beveled glass mirror measures a mere 8 ½” in height and 5 ½” in width, and is probably an apprentice example of a wall mirror. It is beautifully detailed, featuring a scrolled pediment with a central shell motif and incorporating other classic elements such as columns and acanthus leaves. The back is lined with what would have once been sumptuous and richly colored red silk fabric that is now faded and a little worn at the base of the support stand.
This superb little mirror is in very good condition! There would have been a small hanging hook at the back which is now missing but can be easily replaced. Also missing is the ribbon that would have anchored the support stand to the frame at the back – again this too can be replaced.
