English and French country antiques with an emphasis on antique kitchenware, small painted country furniture and folk art.
19th century Norwegian folk art painted wooden bucket. Constructed from pine staves and banded with split sapling wood. The bucket is perforated and would have been used in the preparation (or preservation) of food, perhaps in the processing of soft cheeses or other dairy goods. It retains its original paint a distinctive Scandinavian Ox-blood red and is simply decorated with the owners name on the front. There are carved initials and a name on the base a reference to either the craftsman and or region (?)
It is in superb original condition. The bucket is structurally very sound and sturdy with only very slight shrinkage around the top hoops.
Measures 12 in height x 11 ½ in diameter at the top. Base diameter is 9 Ό in diameter.
