Candle stand American walnut tilt top with spider legs, circa 1800 Antique Furniture. This American tilt top walnut candle stand was made in the New England area, probably Pennsylvania. The table top is 24" by 18". It is solid walnut with original surface. The finish on the shaped top is a little crazed. The spider legs are dovetailed into the turned pillar. The feet and the pillar have good color. There is a repair to one leg where it joins the pillar. Good repair, very strong and sturdy. The top latch seems to have been replaced with another one from the period (there are two extra holes). The block has a good strong repair. These are all legitimate repairs done over a century ago. After all this piece is nearly 200 years old. The cleats are sound and the stand is structurally sound. Tilt top stands were used to serve tea during the day and in the evening a candle or oil lamp was placed on them. This candle stand can be shipped UPS.
