Antique solid brass fly fishing reel, One of many listed, made by A.F. Meisselbach, Newark, New Jersey. Reel is Featherlight No. 290, skeleton reel patent dates Jan 14, 1896 and Dec. 27 also Dec. 27 04 on the spool. Reel is 3 1/2" diameter, 1" wide spool, reel foot is 2 3/4" long. Strong click in ON position, spins smooth as silk in OFF position. The frame or spool is not bent or damage in any way. Original wood knob. Reel was cleaned and polished to a mirror finish, lacquered and lubricated. The reel foot has not been filed down in length or width. A slot was cut into each end, probably so it could be screwed to a bamboo pole that did not have a reel seat, not uncommon. The reel foot is strong and will fit most fly rods.
