Antique Porcelain Chocolate pot Japanese Geisha with six cups and saucers. Circa 1920 - 1930, made in Japan, white background porcelain with black stencil line pattern and hand painted coloring. The decoration is high relief outline of Japanese women and child surrounded by traditional buildings. The pattern wraps-around the pot and cups and encompasses the saucer in its entirety. The pattern is "Torii"; a large torii, entranceway to the Shinto shrine, ladies and child are walking through the temple garden of pines and cherry blossoms, pagoda dominates the skyline and geisha are diminutive in styling. This pattern is illustrated in Plate #51, "Geisha Girl Porcelain" by Elyce Litts. The six cups are 3" high, have scallop base, are ribbed and flare at the top; saucers are 5 1/8" in diameter. The pot is 10" high, ribbed panel, flares from top to base, there is a 2-tier scallop edge along the bottom and the top has cartouche finial, handle is fancy. It is marked "Made in Japan" on the bottom. This entire set has brown edging on all porcelain pieces. This set is old and exhibits all such characteristics: stencil lines above the porcelain, brush strokes of color extend beyond outlines of the plants and geisha figures, and eyes are simple, straight lines and the nose is angular. This set is in mint condition, no chips, cracks, breaks or repairs. Refer to additional photos. To purchase with MC or VISA please call our antique shop Drury House Antiques, 802-824-4395 EST
