Nippon porcelain, chocolate or cocoa pot, hand painted, turn of the century refined dining table accessory. The cocoa pot is 9 1/8" tall and 5" in diameter at the base. The shape is flared with applied handle. It was hand painted after firing, a tranquil woodland scene in beautiful colors. The flowers on the front, back, and the lid are cherry blossoms, very realistic. In Japan the cherry blossom is symbolic of a faithful warrior and the national flower of the country. The handle, rim and ring finial on the lid are all gold leafed. The lid has the all important cut out for inserting a spoon for stirring the cocoa. This cut out differentiates cocoa or chocolate pots from ordinary coffee and tea pots. A border of gold leaf and beading are on the lid and pot rim. Condition is excellent, no chips, cracks, breaks or repairs. The backstamp is Nippon mark #71 a pagoda in aqua. See photos.
