Happy Indiana Glass Collecting!
This is a purple carnival glass plate made by Fenton in the 1970's. Beginning in 1971, Fenton produced a series of three plates honoring Mother's Day. Each plate showed a mother and child and was based on a famous painting or sculpture. This one is the second in the series. It is dated 1972 and is marked Fenton on the back. There is a description written on the back. it reads:
Commemorating Mother's Day with a reproduction of "Madonna of the Goldfich", painted in about 1760 by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, the last great master of the Venetian school of painting.
No. 2 in the annual series of Mother's Day plates by Fenton.
This measures 7 1/2 inches across. The carnival colors are boldly applied on the thick purple base glass. Please see the pictures. This is high Fenton quality, a really beauty and no damage, this is like new. Please excuse the rain drops. It started to rain when I was taking pictures. It would be a wonderful addition to any carnival glass or Fenton collection.
Please see my other listings for addition Fenton carnival glass plates.
