Happy Indiana Glass Collecting!
In addition to extremely beautiful iridescence on this scarce marigold example, the unusual nut bowl shape creates added interest.
Amethyst and green are the only two additional colors found in this pattern, with amethyst being the most available color. The Rosette pattern entered the carnival arena quite early; circa 1909-1910. The tiny flea bite size chip on the rim is not very noticeable. The brilliant iridescence compensates nicely. There is no other damage to the bowl.
Jefferson Glass Co. of Follansbee, WV produced the Ruffles & Rings pattern for use on a variety of their non-iridized opalescent ware. Northwood Glass purchased the mould from them in 1908 for use as an exterior design on footed bowls and plates in the Wishbone and Rosette interior patterns.
From 1999-2003, only five amethyst Rosette bowls sold at Carnival Glass auctions, none in marigold! Considering the scarcity of this pattern in marigold, a price of $80. seems quite reasonable.
