This is a purple carnival glass Mother and Child Plate made by Fenton in 1971. It is marked Fenton on the back. Also on the back is a description of the plate design. It says:

"Madonna with the Sleeping Child" is the first of a series of reproductions of world famous Madonnas with which The Fenton Art Glass Company commemorates Mothers Day.

The original glazed terra cotta relief from which this plate was designed has been attributed to Michelozzo, a 15th century artist of the Florentine school.

This plate is in excellent condition with exceptional carnival colors. There is no damage. This would be a wonderful addition to any carnival glass collection.
