I think this is a hummingbird gracefully landing on a tree branch close to a carved flower. His wings are finely carved and feathered and his eyes are onyx. Properly holed for netsuke and signed by the artist. Postage included in price.

This is a six sided enamel painted teapot. The pictures painted on the pot are a waterfall, a meadow with people, a hut next to a river, and a tree growing out of a rock. This is not cloisonne. The enamel is painted directly on the metal in vibrant blue, green, and red. The lid shows some wear. There is a chop mark on the bottom of the pot. Teapot measures 5 1/2" tall and 4 1/2" long.

This is an older, somewhat primitive carving of an Asian water buffalo. He has onyx eyes and is anatomically correct. He 4" long and 2" high. The water buffalo is the beast of burden in many Asian countries and is very important to the agricultural economy.

This is a very relaxed, sleepy pussy cat with nicely carved fur and short domestic cat ears. Tagua nut is call vegetable ivory because its weight, color, and hardness are very similar to elephant ivory. Tagua palms grow in sub tropical areas such as Ecuador. This is a very small boxwood and bone Japanese Inro. An inro is a form of purse or carry case used by Japanese men to carry money, medicines, chops, and snuff because kimonos had no pockets. This inro was probably used to hold snuff or medicine. The button being used as an ojimi bead is not original. The inro measures 2" high by 1 3/4" wide. The wood shows that it has been handled often.

Made from one piece of hippo tooth, this small statue depicts a farmer with a hoe, holding some of the fruits of his labor. His clothing is finely etched and scrimshawed and he has a happy expression on his face. He stands 3" high and is not quite 1" wide. This is a very well proportioned and executed work of art and is signed by the artist. Hippo ivory does not endanger any species and is a renewable resource.

This Asian box has many depictions of dragons and the legendary Phoenix birds, along with emblems resembling flowers. These figures are actually soldered onto the box. This could have been used to carry medicine, tea, money, or a chop, among other uses. The cylinder stands 3" high and the diameter is 1 1/2". Buyer should be aware that "Tibetan silver" is not pure silver but is a combination of silver and other alloys such as tin or antimony.

This particular immortal was a favorite at court. Han Xiang carries a flute and is the patron saint of musicians in China. It is said that he could make flowers grow with just his will and soothe wild animals with his music. It was also rumored that he was a hermaphrodite. He stands 3 1/2" tall. The scrimshaw on his robe and hat are beautifully etched. He is signed by the artist.

Here is a darling pair of puppies carved from boxwood into netsuke form. They couldn't be sweeter--look like litter mates. This is a great ox bone carved statue of the Chinese longevity god Shouxing. This is a typical rendering of Shouxing with a peach, his prominent forehead, a dragon staff, and a wine gourd. The only thing missing is the crane (bird) that he used as a mode of transportation. Really fine etched and colored scrimshaw on his robe. He stands 5" tall and 3" at the widest point. Long beard, long eyebrows, long ears--all show he is one the Immortal Eight of Chinese lore.

Here is an interestingly shaped snuff bottle in yellow painted porcelain with etched and painted cranes decorating it. Cranes are a symbol of longevity in many Asian cultures. The spoon top is a gray stone-possibly agate. The concave sides are unusual to me. There is a chop mark stamped on the bottom. The bottle stands 2 1/2" high and is 2" wide.
