The inside of one bowl still has the original paper label “Made in England” although both pieces carry paper labels on the bottom that says “Sheffield Silver Co. U.S.A.” (Sheffield became a division of Reed & Barton in 1974.) The label further notes the silver is lacquered and can be cleaned with a soft cloth.
I believe these are lacquered silver plate as there is no silver mark etched on the pieces. They are not chrome. After 45 years, however, silver polish is occasionally required. In fact, if you look closely, you can see tarnished silver through the satin glass. But there is no way to polish it without having the insert removed by a professional.
Underneath where the stem meets the foot is engraved: Farberware Bros. NYC and two patent numbers. One refers to the design of the silver bowl open work that holds the glass insert and is dated 1933. The second number could not be found. Exquisite pieces of design.
Measure 6 ˝" tall, 4 1/4" at the widest. Pedestal foot is 3" across the bottom. Price is for both. One valued less because of a silver work crack between the ‘leaves.’
