Civil War era gold frame ambrotypes of two handsome men in suits, they look like brothers. Sixth plate size. The embossed case is still together and has a small swing lock.

Ambrotypes appeared in 1854, peaked 1855-1860, and mostly unused after 1866. The ambrotype is a thin negative image on glass made to appear as a positive by showing against a dark background. It was common for the ambrotype to be colored. Suggestions of rouge cheeks and lips suggested a person of substance.
