First of all, let me say I have about 22 photos of this set, so please view all my photos or email me for additional photos. This set originates from an estate in Utah and really is quite remarkable. Condition is outstanding and the set is really ornate. This is French Brittany antique furniture. It's hand
carved in the Quimper area of France. It's miniature versions of
the adult. Several of these pieces are marked with stickers, labels, etc. Several indicate Brest and Bretagne, all parts of France. This art carved into the wood pieces is typical of this part of France. The set includes a trunk for mademoiselle which has etched designs and something which resembles a captains wheel, open with spokes which radiate from the center. Tiny ball shaped wood for feet. Lid opens to reveal a compartment to store linens, clothing, love letters, calling cards, etc--everything a fine high society lady would want to store away for safe keeping. this measures 6.5" X 5" X 3~3/4" high. Excellent condition with well working hinges. The bench is the next item, with a high back and once again the radiating captain's wheel or spokes. 6" high in back. Seat measures about 4.5" high. Residue in back suggests something was originally glued here...not sure what, as everything is structurally sound...Original label reads Meubles Brest. The seat opens to reveal a compartment for more linens! (A lady cannot have too many fine linens!) My favorite piece is next--the bed with the clock in it! Ornate door is accented with a wonderful glass covered window, revealing the face of a clock. Open area in front of door reveals the brass pendulum which normally would swing back and forth to keep perfect time. Upon opening the door, one finds a mechanism on the backside, but I have not tested this to see if I can get the clock running. Once again, a nice room compartment inside for some of mademoiselle's finest silk walking suits, dresses, frocks, etc. Whatever you wish to put inside! This measures 13~3/4" tall. About 4~1/4" deep if you measure to the door and 6" wide at the back. The pièce de résistance to many collectors will be this massive and very elaborate sideboard or cupboard. Perfectly lovely to display, once again, linens, or m'lady's fine china! The door are unique--the two outermost ones open like doors and the two inner panels slide back and forth. Once again, so elaborately decorated with scallops, flowers, wheels, etc. The top measures 17~1/2" wide. 17~1/2" tall. 6~1/4" deep at the most protruding area. There is a small "chip" out of the rim at the top, but because the original stain is over it, I believe it must be a flaw with the wood, but I did want to make you aware of this. This has a metal label nailed to the back of it. A truly exceptional set. One rarely finds something this extraordinary, elaborate and in this fine condition.
Shipping is just an estimate. I will charge you actual shipping costs.
