Created in the 17th Century Guido Reni's magnificent original fresco was painted to decorate the ceiling in the "Casino of the Ruspigliosa Palace" in Rome. It shows Aurora, the Dawn, scattering flowers over the land and the ocean and accompanied by a putti representing Phosphor, the Morning Star. Behind them is The Chariot of the Sun drawn by 4 horses whose different colored coats represent the different degrees of light that appear before the Sun rises. The Chariot is driven by Apollo and is surrounded by various Hours of the Day. The original fresco measures almost 20 feet in length... the fact that the artist had been able to produce such an incredibly monumental work is a testament to the skill and talents of the craftsmen, this miniature would make a distinctive and sophisticated statement in any setting....
Set in it's original beautifully elaborate gilded frame, this very impressive lithograph is ready for display...superior quality!
Condition: Mint.... with some very minor wear marks to the frame, commiserate with a piece of this vintage.
