Copeland Crown Derby Dresden Elkington Limoges Minton Moser Royal Doulton Royal Vienna Samson Sevres Zsolnay
They are of great historical significance as they invented the silver electroplating process in the 1830's, having received many awards for their distinguished work.
This is a wonderful piece that would have been used as a table centerpiece for a very elegant dinner, features two ibis birds under a palm tree. It is 9" tall, and 8 1/2" in diameter. The ibis was venerated in ancient Egypt mythology and is associated with the God Thoth. It is an exotic Victorian piece and most unusual!
It is marked Elkington & Co, March 1860, and also has a hallmark with an anchor, a shield symbol containing a crown and E & Co., and the letter W inside a diamond. This piece was designed by the famed Elkington designer August- Adolphe Willms.
Although the piece is marked 1860, the manufacturing date was 1861 as indicated by the W in diamond (Elkington 1861 date code). It was probably designed in 1860. This is a rare and unusual piece!..a treasure for the collector of exceptional antiques.
Condition: In excellent condition with some minor age appropriate wear to the electroplate consistent with a piece of this vintage.
