Antique Sterling Silver Sugar Tongs

These beautiful tongs have been lovingly engraved with a feathered edge, a decorative scroll at the bowl and flowers and fronds on the tongs.

Not only decorative these tongs are highly useful, during the 18th century lumps of sugar were removed from the sugar bowls with sugar tongs. Most of the sugar tongs of the period were based on similar designs and sizes. This gentile way of serving became the norm for the tongs that followed . Unfortunately hallmarked is rubbed.
