This very strong signed work from Cape Dorset though signed, is unidentifiable which unfortunately is the case of many of the earlier sculpture from the Inuit (Eskimo) artists.

It is a mottled dark green color stone ( Serpentinite) carving of a walking musk ox; signed in syllabics to the underside, with the Canadian government's Co-op tag accompanying this work, which is the government's certificate that authenticates this piece as a genuine and very early Inuit (Eskimo) carving.

A very special and endearing sculpture as the artist has captured the massiveness of the body and the movement of the musk ox's fur as it walks.
